Blackhawk’s senior economics class, taught by Jay Sefton, took a field trip on April 11, to Berne Apparel and A.G. Apparel. The students started off the morning right with donuts, provided by the wonderful C.E.O.’s of Berne Apparel (one of those C.E.O.’s being John Nussbaum, former graduate of BCS). Berne Apparel specializes in high quality hunting and work apparel. They gave a tour of their warehouse and allowed a question and answer session about their business, where the students were able to learn about what it takes to make a high quality product, while remaining competitive in the market. At A.G. Apparel, the students learned the ropes of T-shirt making. They were able to see first hand the processes and the machinery that is involved in order to produce mass amounts of graphic T-shirts. It was an eventful, fun day, and the students learned much about two successful businesses in our community.
